First, before you call anyone
- If a wire is down, or a tree is resting on one, stay well away and call 911 and your electric company. Nobody can work on that tree until the line is made safe, and that includes us.
- If the tree came through the roof, get everyone out of those rooms. A tree that has stopped moving can still settle.
- Do not try to cut a fallen tree that is bent or pinned. The wood is loaded like a spring, and that is how people get hurt after storms, not during them.
- Take photos from a safe distance before anything is moved. Your insurance company will ask for them.

What happens when you call
You tell us what fell and what it is on. A photo by text is the fastest way to get a real answer. Adam tells you when a crew can be there, which for a true emergency is as soon as it is safe to work, often first thing the next morning if it happens at night.
The crew makes the site safe first: weight off the roof, the driveway open, hanging limbs down before they fall on their own. Then the tree is cut up, chipped and hauled, and the yard is cleaned. If the roof is open, we can work around the tarp crew or your roofer.

Storm damage cleanup
Not every storm call is a tree on a house. After a nor'easter, a wet October snow or one of the summer microbursts that come through MetroWest, the usual damage is a yard full of broken limbs, a split trunk, and branches hung up in the canopy waiting to drop. Those hangers are the dangerous part. We bring them down, clean up what is on the ground, and tell you honestly whether the tree that lost the limb is still sound or should come out.

Insurance
In Massachusetts, a homeowner's policy generally pays to remove a tree that has fallen on a covered structure, such as the house, a garage or a fence, and often a tree blocking the driveway. It usually does not pay to remove a tree that fell in the yard and hit nothing. Policies differ, so call your agent. We will give you a written estimate and an invoice that describes the work, and photos of the job if your adjuster wants them.

Do you really answer at night?

Does emergency work cost more?
A tree that is on a house is a harder job than the same tree standing, because it is under load and nothing about it is predictable. The price reflects the work, not the hour. You get the number before we start.
My neighbor's tree fell in my yard. Who pays?
In most cases your own insurance covers damage to your property, whoever owned the tree, unless the neighbor had been warned the tree was dangerous and did nothing. Your agent can tell you for certain. We can remove it either way.
The tree is leaning but has not fallen. Is that an emergency?
If the lean is new, the ground on one side is lifting or cracked, or you can hear it, yes. Keep people and cars away from it and call. If it has leaned that way for years, it is a job for a normal inspection.
